APPLICATION DATA SHEET

Pipe Fence Preparation

RUST CURE® has numerous applications.   This document details our recommendations for chemical treating of pipe fences, cattle gates and similar metal fence parts.

PREPARATION:  Some used pipe may be found to be impregnated with oil which should be removed prior to RUST CURing®or painting. Clean with mineral spirits, (paint thinner) or other degreasers before using RUST CURE®.

APPLICATION:   Texas A & M Experimental Station in McGregor has suggested that RUST CURE® be applied from an open bucket by hand using a plastic glove and painters mitt.      This has proven to be the best and most economical method of application. We recommend swabbing the top of horizontal pipes until drips are noticed at the bottom.   Then swabb the bottom of the pipe, catching any drip before proceeding.    When complete, run the mitt again over the bottom of each horizontal pipe to make sure no drips remain.

CAUTION: If rain, snow, sleet, dew or any form of condensate contacts the rust cured surface before it is thoroughly dry, a white dusty residue may occur.  We recommend a repeat application to insure the tough film, (approx .00611) has formed. Otherwise, be sure to brush the surface clean prior to paint4.ng.

NOTE:  In very humid climates, expect a longer drying time than under dry conditions.   To shorten the drying time, up to 25% of pure water may be added to RUST CURE®. This will reduce the cured film but has proven satisfactory if painted before rust appears.

RUST CURE® is self neutralizing and stops the electrolysis in metal pores when thoroughly dry.   A good grade of paint, applied over a RUST CUREd®surface will extend the life expectancy for many years.

DO NOT RINSE WITH WATER!!
