APPLICATION DATA SHEET
Sandblasting Alternative
RUST CURE® has numerous applications. This document details our recommendations for substituting chemical removal of rust instead of sandblasting.
FOR FLASH RUST: Apply RUST CURE® with an acid compatible sprayer, brush, sponge or cloth. Keep surface wet with RUST CURE® until rust is softened, (approximately 5 minutes or less), then wipe with a sponge or cloth dampened with RUST RUST CURE® . This will produce a smooth and primed surface for painting. If a rougher painted surface is satisfactory, then wiping is not required.
Avoid exposure to moisture in any form; dew, snow, sleet, rain or condensate prior to drying. If so, the cured film is reduced in thickness and a white powdery residue may occur. In severe cases a second application of RUST CURE® may be necessary. A powdery residue may be removed by wiping with a cloth or sponge moistened with RUST CURE® .
FOR HEAVIER RUST: The surface must be kept wet with RUST CURE® for a longer time interval to allow RUST CURE® to soften the surface rust and penetrate into the pores of metal. Be prepared to allow up to one hour or more on heavier rust. RUST CURE® should not be allowed to dry prior to complete penetration.
FOR VERY HEAVY RUST: Sandblast, then apply RUST CURE® after the surface has oxidized and a thin rust film is present.
Complete penetration will result in stopping the electrolytic action in metal pores and producing a thin, tough protective film (approx. .000611). For items kept in-doors, expect a rust free condition for many years. For items kept outdoors, paint before allowing exposure to heavy rains or similar conditions to avoid erosion of the protective film. Paint should not be applied until the surface is thoroughly dry to avoid blisters and a white pin-head appearance in the finish.
DO NOT RINSE WITH WATER!!
SURFACE MUST BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE PAINTING!!
PAINTED SURFACES TREATED WITH RUST CURE® LAST UP TO FIVE TIMES LONGER WHEN PROPERLY CURED.
