Beautiful Whiskey Barrels
RUST CURE® has numerous applications. This document details our recommendations for treating half whiskey barrels for planters.
OBSERVATION: There are millions of half whiskey barrels being used for planters and most of them have very rusty metal bands. Mr. Frank Janacek from San Antonio, Texas wrote to tell us how he got rid of the rust and beautified his planter. Here are some of Mr. Janacek's comments:
"I bought RUST CURE® to remove the rust from the bands on a half whiskey barrel planter. It worked fine but I found out something else when it spattered on the wood which had a black charred appearance. RUST CURE® took off the black color and restored the barrel to its natural wood color. I then applied a coat of marine varnish and ended up with the most beautiful planter in town".
RECOMMENDATIONS: Buy a half whiskey barrel and wash the inside and outside with detergent and water. Wipe as dry as possible and apply RUST CURE® with spray , brush, cloth or sponge to the bands and outside wood. Apply liberally to each band to insure that the RUST CURE® penetrates between the wood and the band. Wipe off any excess with dry toweling material and allow the planter to air dry thoroughly.
DO NOT RINSE WITH WATER!!
SURFACE MUST BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE PAINTING!!
Apply two coats of clear marine varnish and expect a beauty.
